U.S. Federal Reserve raises benchmark interest rate by 0.25%p, forecasting two more hikes in 2019

 

 
As markets had expected, the U.S. Federal Reserve 미국 연방준비제도이사회의  raised its benchmark 기준, 지수 interest (기준금리) rate by a quarter-point on Wednesday.
Following the Federal Open Market Committee meeting, the Fed said the target range for its benchmark funds rate now stands between 2.25 to 2.5 percent.
This is the fourth hike [물가, 가격 등] 인상, ~을 기습적으로 대폭 인상하다. (go hiking 도보여행, 하이킹하다) this year, and the ninth since the Fed began normalizing 정상화하다, 표준으로 하다 rates 표준금리 in December of 2015.
It explained that the labor market continued to strengthen ~스트링뜬 을 강하게 하다 and economic activities have expanded.

"You've have growth well above trend. You've got unemployment dropping. You've got inflation moving up to 2 percent. And we also have a positive forecast, as I mentioned. And in that context (상황, 문맥), we think this move was appropriate for what is a very healthy economy."

The Fed, meanwhile, projected there will be two rate hikes next year, a reduction 축소, 감소, 삭감 from what it forecast in September.
The increase came despite President Trump's tweet earlier this week in which he called it (quote) "incredible" the Fed was considering raising rates.
